RENOVATION PROJECT IN ABCOUDE

The project in Abcoude involved modernising a 1955 house and adapting
it to the needs of a growing family.

The extension took place in two stages. In the first in 2022, the ground
floor was enlarged by 46 m2, changing the functional layout. Accordion
doors connecting the kitchen and dining room with the garden were
installed, the entrance area was rebuilt, the installations were replaced,
and underfloor heating was installed.

On the street side, where the old kitchen was located initially, the
entrance area was extended, the stairs were replaced, and a new toilet
was built. A functional laundry room and pantry were also created, which
are cleverly connected to the kitchen but are not visible from the
representative part of the ground floor, i.e. the living room and dining
room. This project’s difficulty was fulfilling the owners’ dream of a huge

kitchen island and an open kitchen. The building structure had a load-
bearing column on the garden side’s central part of the ground floor. We

designed and made kitchen furniture to fulfil this dream.

The second stage in 2024 included reconstructing the attic—the roof was
raised by 90 cm, gaining an additional 70 m2. There was a space for
parents with a bedroom, a wardrobe, and a Zen-style bathroom. The roof
tiles were replaced, the building was insulated, and the facade was
renovated, preserving the original character.
