RENOVATION PROJECT IN HAARLEM
The project involved the modernisation of a typical three-storey corner house in Haarlem. A young expat family bought an old tenement house from 1910, probably last renovated in the 1980s. The 197 m2 building had an adjacent garage, where the previous owner repaired cars.
The project was divided into stages. The first stage involved adapting the garage area and incorporating it into the usable area of the house. This gave the house an additional 55 m2. This required the preparation of design documentation and obtaining a permit from the city office. This part of the documentation was prepared by the architectural studio Slangen Architekten. While waiting for the permit, I created an interior design with 3D visualisations and material specifications. This also allowed the clients to prepare financially for the implementation and to plan well the move during the renovation.
We were then able to start changing the functional layout of the interiors and remodelling to meet the needs of our clients. Three floors received a completely new layout adapted to the needs of our clients. The attic was adapted to the needs of children, with an additional bathroom. The first floor gained a private area for parents with a bedroom, bathroom, wardrobe and laundry room. On the ground floor, in part of the old garage, there was a place to store bicycles with a separate entrance from the street. Unfortunately, this house does not have a garden, so the new owners wanted to adapt the terrace located on the roof of the garage. Our scope also included the construction of additional stairs with access to the terrace, as well as the installation of custom-made windows and the repair of the facade. The scope of construction work also included the replacement of installations and the construction of completely individually designed bathrooms and toilets. The interiors were also equipped with furniture according to our design. This is how the owners’ dream kitchen was created, divided into several zones. The part of the kitchen intended for cooking is located in the central part of the ground floor plan. The kitchen island connects this part with a place for preparing coffee and other drinks. There is also a pantry and a place for waste segregation. The furniture in the living room is conducive to family meetings, as is the dining room, with a large table and a corner for children to play.
